December 8, 2016
Long afternoon
Dreary, overcast, cold
Colder forecast tomorrow
Dogs are home alone
Sad when I left, they were
When will the art take over?
Pick up a pen, crayon, brush, pencil
The time is now
There is so much suffering
Write a verse, a line, a word
Try to remember. Try.
Time slips by. Who will miss us?
The darkness slowly, quickly rushes in and sits
Beside our weary frames
She rushed by the window
Braced against the cold
One step, rush by
Through the day. Today
Lights twinkle cold
Bright tonight. One day
Again and again. One day
This step, this step
Over and over through the darkness
Turning into years
Years of dreary cold
After such a warm, kind 8 years
And so it goes over again
When does the warring stop
When do we put aside our differences?
Split, severed, separated
For what?
Do you remember?
Will you miss me?
Will it matter in the darkness?
This hymn is for you
Won’t you be kind and open the door?
Sometimes the loneliness screams
Mid-afternoon
Sound carries across the cold
Just today, won’t you be kind?
A celebration could come our way
One day. One step
Praise for the insignificant, for the forgotten
When will you call?
Maybe never
That is sufficient for the day
Don’t you know
Strength is only so strong
Eventually there is a weakness. Then a snap
At that point no more waiting. Time is over
No more one day, one step
Regrets are no more
Numbness is your reward
Reward …..
But back to today
This dreary December day
She hurries along down the sidewalk
Past the shops
Braced against the cold
One day. One step.
